The Friûl Libar’s name refers to the Friluan people’s political movement in northeast Italy, where Amaro Nonino is produced.

  • 1 1/2 oz Amaro Nonino Quintessentia
  • 1/2 oz Plymouth Navy Strength Gin
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 oz Demerara Simple Syrup
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice.
  • Shake until chilled.
  • Double-strain into a chilled coupe.
  • Express oils from twist over, rub along glass rim and notch on edge of rim.

Named for the county where I live, I created this peach Manhattan variant to celebrate Atlanta’s historic impact on the 2020 election. To go all-out Georgia, use Atlanta-based distilleries’ ‘American Spirit Works(ASW)’ Resurgens Rye and Blended Family’s peach liqueur.

  • 2 oz Rye Whiskey
  • 1/4 oz Peach Syrup
  • 1/4 oz Peach Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Dolin Dry White Vermouth
  • 1 dash Fee Bros. Peach Bitters
  • 1 dash Fee Bros. Barrel-Aged Aromatic Bitters
  • Add all ingredients except for garnish to a mixing glass.
  • Fill with ice and stir for 30-40 seconds until well-chilled and diluted.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe.
  • Garnish with a thin peach slice if available.

Gin Gimlet

The Gin Gimlet is essentially a gin daiquiri, a deeply refreshing drink ideally mixed with home-made lime cordial.

Ginger Syrup

A favorite component of quite a few different drinks, well-made ginger syrup is both spicy (somtimes very much so depending on your specific ginger) and sweet and a great complement to so many other ingredients.

  • 250 g White Sugar
  • 250 g Demerara Sugar
  • 250 g Ginger Root
  • 250 g Water
  • 1 oz Everclear or Similar High-Proof Vodka
  • Measure by weight, not volume for this recipe.
  • Put ginger and sugar in blender or food processor and very carefully add boiling water.
  • Blend thoroughly, then strain theough a fine mesh sieve or even a nut-bag.
  • Bottle and store in the fridge for up to a week or so.
  • Adding 1oz of high-proof vodka (eg Everclear) helps with longevity.
