We headed off to Blue Ridge, GA, a small community about 90 miles northwest of Atlanta the weekend of the 13th to catch some color (in terms of foliage),
relax with some great friends, eat some great food (courtesy of Joel’s deft touch in the kitchen) and let all our kids get to know each other better. We joined three wonderful families – the Silvermans, the Newmans and the Simons – and had an awesome time. Lessons learned – Apple Festivals can be ‘apples optional’, I still don’t know what a ‘jacket of legs’ actually is, and either my GPS is faulty or I am. Click here for a photo gallery of us chillin’ by the lake in the mountains. If I ever get around to it, we plan to let the town of Ellijay know they really don’t have the whole concept of running a shuttle bus to their event working all that well -but Sam does love the little wooden car we brought home! We plan on making this an annual event – perhaps in our fave little neck of the woods (literally) around Highlands, NC – next time around.
Zuke!
Tonight for dinner we brought in some Thai food. Sam ate it with gusto; he hogged all the baby corn and a fair share of the rice. However, the zucchini really touched his funny bone. Everytime Mom would say the word, he would burst out laughing. Not just a giggle, but a belly laugh so long and so loud, it cracked us up. This comedy routine went on for the remainder of dinner and into bath time. By the end of his bath, Sam was saying “zucchini” himself (well, pretty close). Who knew that vegetables could be so entertaining.
Shofar Sam
Amy brought out her shofar this afternoon to remember to bring it to tonight’s services closing out this year’s Yom Kippur. Sam won’t make it through the service and the subsequent break-fast party, so he’ll be home with a sitter tonight when the horn is blown in synagogue. Next year, perhaps! Amy demoed the ram’s horn, and Sam had to give it a try as well. Results pictured above!
Seeger’s Soldiers On…
Guenter Seeger began his career in Atlanta in 1985 at the Dining Room at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead. Since then, Atlanta has had an apparent love-hate relationship with this uber-Chef. Noted as much for the food as for the awkward service at his eponymous restaurant he opened in Buckhead in 1997, it was widely reported that he was going to shut his 5-star Mobil-rated restaurant down in late August due to $265,000 in back taxes and the pursuit of ‘other interests’. Well, investors apparently swooped in at the last moment to keep the illustrious restaurant running. So fellow foodie and friend Joel and I decided to go before Seeger ‘closed’ again. Our wives had their own date down the road at Nava – they were not so keen on the high-falutin food nor ‘tude for which Seeger’s is so well known. Well, they missed out – big time. Read on for more about the menu and the experience – including Joel and my ‘anniversary’ desert! Continue reading Seeger’s Soldiers On…
