Although it’s not happened often enough to capture on film, Sam has begun to regularly ‘let go’ and take a few steps here and there. I witnessed the momentous feat earlier this evening as he crossed the rug in our living room, calmly taking a couple of steps, then stopping and standing in place, somewhat bemused that he was vertical, with nothing holding up save his own new-found skill of balance. Be afraid, be very afraid. I have a feeling our lives are truly about to change…

Sesame Street Adds a Character
With the 37th season premiere coming up on August 14th, the Sesame Workshop will introduce their first new female character in 13 years.![]()
The new character, Abby Caddaby, will use the catchphrase “that’s so magic.” The muppet is a pink “fairy-in-training” who uses rhyme and magic to express herself. A Sesame Workshop release described her as “a youngster who knows just enough about magic to get herself in a jam but not always enough to get out of trouble.” via TV Week
Celebrity guests for next season include Jamie Foxx, singer John Legend, “Today” show host Matt Lauer, and comedian Amy Sedaris. No word if her brother will join her to scare the children. Sam was heard muttering at the news:
“They better not cut Elmo’s screen time, or there will be h#*^l to pay!”
Ben at Bonnaroo
Can’t make it to the hinterlands of Tennessee?
The good folks from AT&T are showing off their ability to show stuttering video via their high speed networks with a live video webcast of many of the acts from this year’s alt music festival and arts extravaganza happening about 200 miles north of Atlanta. Two of my faves – Ben Folds is on the air at 3pm ET today and Elvis Costello will be up at 6:30pm Saturday – will be featured. Unfortunately, neither Death Cab for Cutie or Radiohead will be streamed from the AT&T site. Link to AT&T’s ‘BlueRoom’ live streaming is here.
Sam meets Phyllis!
We had an unexpected visitor in town last night – Amy’s aunt Phyllis
was in town for a CDC meeting and got to meet Sam for the first time. He was on his best behavior. Could it be related to us having dinner outside? Lately, Sam insists on being out on the porch as much as possible. Not so bad yesterday in the mid-70s at dinner time. Not so great last week when we were hovering in the mid-90s. Anyway, Sam had a grand old time, playing peekaboo through the back door with Phyllis. More photos are here.
