Parents of kids entering the Cabbagetown campus of the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool gathered again this weekend to move from demolition into construction. Highlights for me – working with Dave to put up the beadboard in the entryway – and learning to use the nail gun. Good times. Gallery is here.
We’ve had a dead tree in the backyard hanging over our parking slab for a while now, and it has come very close to dropping fairly large limbs on top of Amy’s car. We got the required permits from the city arborist, and a tree service came by bright and early to get the work done before the heat of the Atlanta spring was too much. Sam loved the show, watching the dozen or so workmen gather with their four trucks on our street, climb the trees, saw the limbs, and watch the dropping limbs. Sam, as one of the elders in his playgroup, led the way a few weeks ago with his first birthday party – it’s been a sucession of great events organized by the hippest parents around. Here are pics from his buddy Ayden’s party held on Sunday – his parents threw a great event – yummy food for the parents, cheerio necklaces for the tykes and great kid-appropriate cupcakes for the under-1-year-old attendees. Parents of kids entering the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool’s new Cabbagetown facility this Fall gathered to gut much of the interior of the building in preparation for renovations through the next few months. Sam will be joining the ‘Cats’ group in just a few months for two days a week. Most enjoyable: knocking down the 2x4s with a mallet. Least fun: pulling up the linoleum flooring. But all in all, a good time for a good cause. I know I’ll be holding this labor over my son’s head in the future. Who knew tearing stuff down could be so much fun?
Sunday 6/4 Update: I’ve added images from day two of ‘demolition’, when we actually began construction activities, putting up drywall, spackling over the screws, and framing out the new doorway and walls for part of the improvements.
